The Notary Practice Update & Refresher is your annual opportunity to reconnect with essential principles, recent developments, and best-practice expectations in New South Wales notarial practice. 

Designed exclusively for accredited and practising Notaries, this in-person education day provides clear, practical guidance on common issues and emerging challenges in the field.

Presented by the New South Wales Society of Notaries, the program refines complex updates into actionable insights; strengthening your confidence, accuracy, and professional judgement across everyday notarial work.

What you will learn: 

  • Modern document management & notarial protocol including electronic documents and updated workflow expectations.
  • Preparing notarial certificates including private and public form, key cases, and correct application in practice.
  • Authentication challenges, DFAT’s latest requirements, foreign-language material, visas, IDs & educational records.
  • Emerging risks & technology which include remote access, cyber-fraud, deepfakes, and best-practice safeguards.

Please note: This education day is strictly for existing and accredited Notaries Public.

At the end of this seminar, you will earn 6 CPD points.

COURSE OUTLINE

Topics for the program will include: 

  • Document management (including electronic documents) and Notary protocol 
  • Notarial Certificates in private and public (authentic) form; including Monte Piasche case
  • Foreign language documents
  • DFAT’s latest “stringent” requirements
  • Remote access, deepfakes and cyber-fraud
  • Educational and academic documents
  • Authenticating Australian visas and other ID documents
  • Notarising electronic documents; and
  • Recommended fee scale

 

This course is for exsisting notaries.

 

The time listed for this course is Australia Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT). Please take note of any time differences if you are registering from QLD, WA, SA, NT or from outside Australia.

This course complies with the mandatory requirement of substantive law, professional skills and practice management and business skills.

If you intend to claim CPD units for this educational activity, please note that CPD activities are not accredited by the Law Society of NSW or any other equivalent local authority, with the exception of Western Australia. If you hold a practising certificate in a state or territory other than Western Australia and this educational activity extends your knowledge and skills in areas that are relevant to your practice needs or professional development, then you should claim one (1) "unit” for each hour of attendance, refreshment breaks not included. The annual requirement is ten (10) CPD units each year from 1 April to 31 March. Some practitioners, such as accredited specialists are required to complete more than ten (10) units each CPD year.
