A mediation rarely unfolds in a straight line; it moves through identifiable stages that require different skills, judgment calls and interventions from the mediator.
This program takes participants inside a complete mediation, using a pre-filmed session to examine the process across four key stages:
- Managing the top triangle
- Facilitating exploration in the bottom triangle
- Using private sessions with purpose, and
- Guiding negotiation toward agreement.
Supported by targeted written resources, the program translates theory into practice, allowing mediators to observe techniques in action and understand how effective decision-making shapes outcomes in real time.
You will learn how to:
- Set expectations, establish common ground and prioritise issues
- Facilitate constructive dialogue and manage difficult interactions
- Use private sessions strategically and appropriately
- De-escalate conflict, manage impasses and apply LARSQ techniques
